The 2011 Mid-Winter meeting was held January 14-15, 2011 in Denver Colorado. The venue location was the Renaissance Denver Hotel. This is a first class facility, and the experience everyone had was truly wonderful.
Most attendees arrived on Friday the 14th, and were greeted in the hospitality room by Ill. Allan Ake, our President and Al Kaly Temple Potentate, and his Lady Linda Agresta. Allan and Linda did a great job setting up the hospitality room, which was staffed most of the time by Garnic Kidwell, who is also Allan's Chief Aid. Lady Linda also did a yeoman's duty keeping the chili hot, the luncheon spreads in tip top shape and the refrigerator well stocked. Other than the hospitality room, activities for Friday afternoon and evening were left to each attendee.
The business meeting was held Saturday morning, opened by President Ill. Allan promptly at 9:00 AM. Secretary Duane Cowden took the roll and we had 11 Temples with a total of 25 members present.
Officers present were: President Alan Ake (Al Kaly), 1st VP Allan Harper (Sudan) 2nd VP Daryl Atkinson (Sharon), 3rd VP Clay Costner (Al Bedoo) 4th VP Ken Marshall (Moila), Treasurer Larry Messerli (Zuhran) Secretary Duane Cowdin (Al Bedoo). Also present were four Past Presidents Gale Fortney (Al Kaly), Ray Keesee (India), Manny Iglesias (Lu Lu) and Ralph Ellis (Sudan). The Temples represented were: Al Azhar, Al Bedoo, Al Kaly, El Riad, India, Lu Lu, Moila, Murat, Sharon, Sudan, and Zuhran.
Minutes of the meeting will be appended to this Web Page when they become available.
Following the meeting we all took the shuttle bus from the Renaissance to the grounds of the National Western Stock Show to inspect the facilities that will be used for the INSHP competition in July.
After looking over the arenas, and stabling, many of the group remained to take in various activities that were underway at the Stock Show. Those returning to the hotel again gathered in the hospitality room or in the hotel's combination lobby, snack bar and great room.
This area of the hotel was especially convenient for breakfast, lunch, and just visiting in general. The burgers and light lunch they served were especially enjoyed. The area also provided a congenial place to assemble prior to taking the shuttle to the stock show.
At 6:00 PM we all met in the lobby of the Hotel to again take the shuttle to the Stock Show for the evening performance of the rodeo. The rodeo, which began at 8:00 PM lasted about two hours and fifteen minutes, and was very fast paced and charged with excitement. Great fun was had by all, and on returning, a good crowd again assembled in the hospitality room for drinks, snacks and the great camaraderie we have in the Shrine and INSHP.
Sunday morning found the members on their own again as they left for their homes. In all a great time was had by everyone, in no small part due to the efforts of our President Ill. Allan and his great sidekick Lady Linda. It should also be pointed out that the Renaissance Denver Hotel provided a great place to host this event. It will also be the location of our gathering for the Imperial Session, and if the accommodations in July are anything like at Mid-Winter, everyone attending will have a jolly good time.
INSHP is a great opportunity for us to get together, see old friends, make new friends, enjoy each others company and gather as Shriners and "Horse People, Mule People for some." Be sure to join us this summer in Denver for the Imperial Session, you'll have a great time.
